Make an Axle Racer

This is good. Like, gooooooooood. Your kids are gonna flip their lids when they see what you can make from stuff out of your recycling bin! Then they’re gonna spend loads of time playing with their new toys outside. And then you’re gonna have some peace and quiet for a bit. And then you’re gonna think to yourself, “I sure do love that Dollar Store Mom.”  And then you’re gonna tell everyone you’ve ever met about me, and we’re all going to become best friends and go on group vacations to exotic islands together.

Where was I? Oh, right. Friends, you’ve just got to give this one a try, okay? Promise? In case you need further incentive, this project gives you permission- nay- it requires you to have some ice cream. (Okay, not exactly requires, as you could use any number of other kinds of lids in place of the ice cream lids…but still.) The folks at Parents.com put together this brilliant little axle racer with stuff I’m nearly certain you’ll have on hand:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Tacky glue
  • Cardboard tube
  • Clothespins
  • Emery board
  • 2 lids from ice cream pints (either plastic-edged or cardboard)
  • Bamboo skewer
  • Scissors or wire cutters
  • 10-inch length of craft wire
  • Rubber band
  • 3/4-inch wood bead

They’ve even made a quick video to show you how easy it is!

Okay then…go make it. Our exotic vacation together depends on it!
