We’re very intentional about giving lots of verbal praise around our house, and not only to our daughter but to each other as well! I often find myself trying to find new ways to compliment my little lady and not just toss out a hundred “good job!” phrases a day. I want to be sure to give her specific compliments that build her up and encourage her in her effort and intentions and uniqueness, rather than only praising positive outcomes/results. I found this article from iMom really useful in helping me find fresh ways to honor and affirm her.
I especially loved the suggestion to “Compliment them for simply being part of the family. ‘Every time I see you, I’m thankful that I’m your Mom.’ Kids need to understand that they are valued simply because they are.” I’d encourage you to take a few minutes and read the rest of the post for even more great ideas!
