Host an Accessory Exchange Party

Accessory Exchange Party Tips

I’ve told you about the fantastic group of women I meet with each month and some of the fun things we do. For our get together in January we had an Accessories Exchange party. It was really easy to put together and we all had so much fun!

The basic idea is that each woman brings accessories (jewelry, purses, scarves etc) that are in good condition that they no longer want/use. All the accessories are displayed on a table at the party and everyone can pick “new” goodies to take home. It’s a great way to breathe new life into your wardrobe without spending any money.

I started by creating an invitation using the above image I found online. Add text with a free site such as and include party details, then send the invitation via email or using Facebook’s events feature. You’ll need to make a few decision here…will you instruct each person to bring the same number of accessories to trade? How will you organize/structure the trading process?

Since I was working with a rather large group of women, I invited each woman to bring however many accessories she wanted, but explained that bringing many accessories didn’t guarantee they’d leave with an equal number of “new” accessories. As each woman arrived, I counted the number of things she brought, and handed her that many tickets (available in the party section of the dollar store). Some women brought just one item, others brought close to 20! Women who brought more than 10 items were given just 10 tickets. We displayed the accessories around a large table, using the chairs to hang purses and scarves.

I instructed the women to browse and select new accessories at their leisure, turning in one ticket per item to me as they were claimed. Once everyone had made their selections we had quite a few accessories remaining on the table, so I drew a random ticket and the winner received the rest of the goodies as a grand prize!

We shared coffee and a few snacks and had a great time watching each other try things on and pick things out. One of my favorite parts of the evening was hearing some of the stories behind certain accessories and getting to try different styles than I normally would. This is such a great Girls Night In party…any excuse to get together with some of your favorite ladies, right?!

We’ve done this a few times and it’s always a blast. The only differences we have are we go one at a time to chose an item. This way we can all stare down the woman who picks up something we wanted (in good fun of course). When everyone is done all the leftovers get donated to the local woman’s shelter thrift store. We also collect donations to take to the actual shelter as an admission price (a tube of toothpaste, perfume or anything else a woman would use.)
