Super cute! Pool noodle horse tutorial - dollar store craft

Kentucky Derby is this weekend.  Our whole family loves to watch the races.  This year we are having our own backyard races with pool noodle horses.

Materials:

Pool Noodle- $1.00 (great time of the year to stock up at the Dollar Store)

Fleece- on hand

Rope- on hand

Scrapbook paper- on hand

Glue gun and glue- on hand

Googlie eyes- on hand

TOTAL: $1.00 and up

The first thing you will do is make cuts on each side of the end of the pool noodle about 3 inches long.  This will create the mouth as well as where you will place the rope to hold the head down.  It  is your choice how long you want your head and neck to be.  Once you have decided how you want the head and neck to look place the rope through the mouth, pull towards the long piece and tie off.  Leave some rope to make reins or to make a loop to put around your child’s body.

You can now attach the eyes.  You will glue these on with  glue gun.  I will warn you the glue gun is hot and will melt the noodle.  It works best to put the glue in the eyes then place on the noodle.  You will do this also for the nose.

To attach the mane and also the ears you will make a slit about one inch into the noodle.  You will insert the mane into he slit. It will hold the mane in tight.  To make your mane just take a piece of fleece and cut about 4 inches and the length will vary depending on the length of your slit.  Once you have it in the slit cut about 1 inch strips to make it look like hair.  For the ears you will also make slits and insert into the slits.  One on each side of the face.  I let my kids make their own ears.  It made it fun for them.
